MBA of New York Scholarship Foundation, Inc.
The MBA of New York Scholarship Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, has the mission of supporting real estate and construction related education through grants and scholarships on a needs and merit basis to students at area educational institutions. The roots of the Foundation go back to 1959, originally as a committee of the Mortgage Bankers Association of New York. The Foundation was later incorporated in 1985.
The Foundation's annual disbursements of approximately $45,000 support matriculated students in real estate programs at Columbia Business School, New York University Real Estate Institute, Baruch’s Steven L. Newman Institute, Pace University and the tuition-free construction trades’ education program at the Mechanics Institute. In recent years, Donations have also been made to both New School University and Cooper Union.
The Foundation’s annual fund-raising event since 2001 is the Metropolitan Symposium held each fall, focusing on development/finance in the Metropolitan area.
Since 1993, the Foundation has been guided by Chairman Lawrence Longua and Vice Chairwoman Marilyn Brown, who are also Trustees. The By-laws of the Foundation provide for three additional Trustees: the President of the Mortgage Bankers Association of New York who also serves, ex officio, as the Foundation’s President, and two others Trustees named by the MBA President.
