President's Message
It has been an honor to serve as President of the Mortgage Bankers Association of New York (the “MBA”) for the 2006/7 and 2007/8 fiscal years. During the past year the MBA celebrated its 60th anniversary of service to the New York real estate finance community. Since its founding in 1948, the primary mission of the MBA has been to offer significant opportunities for networking, education and communication among our membership which reflects the broad spectrum of firms and individuals that make up our industry: mortgage bankers, commercial banks, investment banks, mortgage brokers, property managers, thrift institutions, title and abstract companies, attorneys, accountants, appraisers, insurance companies, environmental and engineering services firms, consultants and others.
I am pleased to report exciting changes that occurred at the MBA and I wanted to bring you up to date on our activities. First, in early 2007 Brenda Kenny became the Executive Secretary of the MBA as well as its Scholarship Foundation. Those of you who have enjoyed our golf and tennis outings over the years have had the pleasure of witnessing Brenda in action. She has coordinated these annual outings for many years and brings that same level of dedication to the MBA on a full time basis. I would be remiss if I did not thank Arlene Stock and her staff at Dynamic Management for their years of dedicated service to the MBA, its membership as well as the MBA of NY Scholarship Foundation.
Second, in an effort to meet the growing needs of our membership, we redesigned our web site to one that is state of the art, customer friendly and industry functional. Our objective was to create a site that will provide a database resource for our members to enhance networking as well as facilitate on-line registration and payment for membership (both initial and renewals) and events. We needed to temporarily close our existing web site while we built our new site. We appreciate your patience while we underwent this redevelopment.
Each past president has brought a spirit of dedication and work ethic to his and her leadership. With the support of a great team of officers, directors and committee chairs, I promise to continue building upon this longstanding tradition. I invite you and your organization to get involved as the MBA continues to provide its membership with the best level of networking and continuing education in the industry. The new web site has a ‘contact us” page and I encourage you to contact me directly with ideas to better our organization.
On behalf of the officers, board members and committee chairs, I promise that the upcoming 2008 - 2009 year will be one of continued growth as we provide you, our members, with an exciting and rewarding agenda. We hope you will join in our efforts so that we can continue to grow together.
I look forward to seeing all our members and guests at our upcoming MBA of NY events.
Sincerely,
Michael Hurley
President
