He chaired the New York State Bar Association real property law section for the year ending in May 2006, and is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. He has written four books and over 150 articles on commercial real estate law, and is one of the leading writers about commercial real estate law in the United States. PANELISTS DAVID DYSENCHUK Consultant, Real Estate Loan Sales, Calyon Bank David has been involved in various aspects of real estate finance since 1987. He has managed the real estate loan syndication and trading groups at Bankers Trust, UBS and Capmark Finance. He received his undergraduate degree from Bates College and graduate degrees from University of Colorado and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
SPENCER GARFIELD Managing Director, Hudson Realty Capital, LLC Spencer Garfield joined Hudson Realty Capital LLC in January of 2003 at the inception of Hudson’s first two funds. He is in charge of business development nationwide including but not limited to the origination of both debt and equity transactions. Prior to joining Hudson, Garfield was the sole managing director at Titan Capital, Inc. where he was responsible for the origination, underwriting, closing and subsequent servicing of high-yield commercial real estate loans. Garfield was also responsible for raising capital from both individuals and institutions and syndicating participations in the loans to various financial institutions. Prior to joining Titan Capital, he was president of Greene Street Partners, Ltd., a full-service boutique real estate investment banking firm based in New York. Garfield has originated and underwritten commercial real estate debt and equity transactions in excess of $5 billion. He maintains more than 15 years of real estate finance experience and is very much in demand as a speaker and panelist at industry events. Garfield also frequently volunteers his time as a speaker at RealShare, IMN, IREI and SRI conferences, and has served on the advisory boards for IREI and RealShare. He is an adjunct professor at New York University and has been a guest lecturer at Columbia University. In addition, Garfield was named one of Institutional Investor’s 20 Rising Stars, Commercial Property News’ Stars to Watch, Real Estate Weekly’s Rising Stars and Real Estate New Jersey’s 40 Under 40. Mr. Garfield received his master's degree in real estate investment and finance from New York University in 1997 and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in 1992.
ROBERT J. HELLMAN Managing Director, Real Estate David Landau & Associates, LLC Rob Hellman leads the real estate practice of David Landau & Associates, a full-service management consulting and internal audit firm. DLA’s clients include REITs, REOCs, Private Equity firms and lenders. Rob began his career in real estate in 1983 as part of Lehman Brothers' efforts to raise equity and debt for real estate investment transactions. Following his career at Lehman Brothers, Rob became a Senior Managing Director at Newmark & Company Real Estate, Inc., where he was a Principal of Newmark Capital Group and the firm's Retail Financial Advisors. Immediately prior to joining DLA, he was a managing director with Ackman-Ziff Real Estate Group LLC, sourcing debt and equity for clients’ acquisitions and developments. Rob holds a B.A. from Cornell University, a master's degree from Columbia University, and a J.D. from Fordham University. He has taught Real Estate Capital Markets at the ICSC University of Shopping Centers and has lectured at the Cornell Graduate Program in Real Estate and the Real Estate Board of New York. SCOTT SCHWARTZ Senior Managing Director, Head of Commercial Real Estate Finance, Marathon Asset Management Mr. Schwartz has 17 years of experience in originating, underwriting, purchasing and securitizing commercial real estate financing transactions. Mr. Schwartz structured and acquired high yielding and illiquid assets that were secured by hard assets and financial assets that included corporate loans and leases, commercial real estate and consumer receivables. Prior to joining Marathon, Mr. Schwartz worked at Clarity Holdings where he was the President and CEO of a national bank and financial holding servicing company. Mr. Schwartz also worked at Credit Suisse First Boston, Heller Financial (G.E. Credit) and Aegon N.V. Mr. Schwartz holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Albany (1989) and a Masters degree in Real Estate Finance & Development from NYU (1993).
